Jeremy Kyle in conjunction with Diane Shawe of Need a makeover surprises 11 year old Toni with a hair makeover

BriefingWire.com, 10/07/2010 - Toni started losing her hair at the age of four from a rare form of alopecia. Her mother became concerned when Toni's self esteem was greatly affected from the constant bullying of children who laughed at her and pulled her wig off at school.

Frustrated she wrote into the Jeremy Kyle show to see if there was anything he could do.

Toni was surprised when waiting backstage was Diane Shawe a head hair enhancement technician was waiting to do a transformation.

Toni was so over joyed and said it was the best day of her life.

Diane stated that Baldness often evokes feelings of vulnerability, loss of self-esteem and embarrassment of self-image. Single men and women who had begun losing hair are more likely to suffer from an extremely low self-esteem.

Helping Toni to regain her self esteem was the best feeling in the world.  Diane donated Toni's Full lace wig.

The Myth of the Maintainence Free Lace Wig

It is a myth that lace wigs can stay attached for weeks on end from just one application!

Just because you have a lace wig  does not mean that you should neglect your own hair  or even more important your skin.

Lace Front wigs are seen on celebrities, musicians and the top runway models every day. Everyone from Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton are wearing these pieces. If a lace wig is professionally fitted it can leave the wearer with a feeling of freedom. They are very light, cool and very breathable.

In comparison to the weave, they are the ultimate in comfort. They also are virtually invisible and undetectable to sight and touch. This is the most natural looking way to change your look but with that comes high maintenance and care.

A great advantage to wearing lace wigs is they can hide damaged hair lines or give overall coverage if you want to give your own hair a rest or keep your hair free from chemical processing.

Whether you are looking for a product that offers a beautiful image change, a solution to excessive hair-loss, thinning hair and hair-loss from alopecia or chemotherapy, a lace front or full lace cap unit may be the answer.

So what are the pros and cons of different type of lace wigs?

A Full lace wig has lace surrounding the full circumference of the wig.  This means that bond or two sided tape has to be used to secure the full hairline.  The advantage of this is that you could then wear your hair up in a pony tail for that smooth sleek look.  The disadvantage is that it is prone to premature loosening a lot quicker, and the continued application of bond/glue would eventually damage the lace and make it less likely to stay stuck down.  The other disadvantage with a full lace wig is that it is hard to get to your own hair underneath if you need to continue some form of treatment.

A Front lace wig has lace concentrated from ear to ear for the front of the head and a traditional wig cap setting at the back. The advantage of this is that the wearer can manage the application of bonding for that seamless undetectable look whilst the rest of the cap can fit securely on the head by using the adjustable straps.  This helps to reduce movement of the lace wig.  It also means that treatment can still be administered to the scalp if needed without having to remove the full cap.

The disadvantage is that the wearer cannot pull their hair up in  a tight ponytail, but most wearers would not be necessarily concerned about that.

Human hair verses High Grade heat tollerent Synthetic hair

Human hair is great because it gives you the versatility of curling, straightening and blow drying, the only disadvantage is that it requires lots of products to help you keep it looking smooth, flyaway and un natural.  They are often proned to looking dry and tired after a few weeks. They are often quite expensive and can often end up costing a lot more than for instance the weave or a normal wig.

The new heat tolerant Synthetic lace wigs can often be much more cost effective.  A very cheap one under £40 will often still look like dolls hair and cannot cope with very high heat. It does not curl effectively and starts looking matted if worn full time after two weeks.

If you spend between £60 - £200 on a good quality heat tolerant synthetic lace wig you will find that they look natural, you don't need any products on them, they have a higher heat tolerant range. You can straighten, curl or blow dry them.  When they start looking tired, a medium heat hair dryer with a good bristle brush will result in your wig looking as new!

So what about lace wig care? Adhesive removers, lace release and even barrier creams can damage your lace wigs ability to bond because most of them have oils in them that damage the lace wig. Try using products that are oil free.
